Adrenal glands, ovaries and testicles, pancreas, pituitary gland, parathyroid glands, and
thyroid gland are the main glands of the endocrine system. These glands
secrete hormones (chemical messengers) that influence the body’s different organs into
the bloodstream. Endocrinology and diabetes is primarily an outpatient practice, but a number of patients need
admission to hospital for complex examinations or complication management. Together with colleagues in primary care, hospital-based professionals are gradually handling diabetes patients and learning has been adapted to reflect this. Patients usually have chronic conditions and treatment in a multidisciplinary group style is systematic and often long-term.
